Work-study Information for Students

How to participate as a student:

StepsFederal Work-StudyWA State Work-Study
ONE Visit the Office of Financial Aid to determine if you qualify for federal or state work-study.
TWO Search for job positions filtered by “work-study” in Handshake. If you have Handshake questions, please contact careers@stmartin.edu.
THREEVisit SMU Human Resource (HR) Office (Old Main 203) to submit hiring paperwork. This is required before starting to work.
FOURWork with department for work study schedule. Students can work a maximum of 20 hours per week across multiple departments. (You will earn sick time that you can use if needed.)
FIVEThe department you work for will pay you monthly (you cannot earn the funds until you have worked the hours). Your monthly check will be sent to you based on what you set up with HR office (direct deposit or paycheck).
SIXYou can work Fall semester through Spring semester. Summer on-campus jobs are not available with Federal Work Study. If you have questions, contact finaid@stmartin.edu.
SEVENThe Office of Financial Aid wills end you monthly balance notification email to help you track you work study balance. If you are close to maximizing your work study, please talk to your department supervisor about changing your hours, or if they can pay you out of their student labor budget.
