Our Promise to You!

If you do not secure employment or graduate school within six months of Commencement, after completing the terms of the Saints Promise, then Saint Martin’s will guarantee a three-month paid internship or tuition-free enrollment to a Saint Martin’s graduate program for one semester*.

As a Saints Promise student, you will have opportunity to:

  • Purposefully engage with your faculty advisor to connect your academic program to your career
  • Meet potential employers
  • Get advice from Saint Martin’s alumni
  • Participate in activities designed to help you learn about your interests and strengths
  • Gain experiential learning you can use on your resume
  • Increase you career readiness competency

Eligibility to voluntarily opt-in to Saints Promise program:

1. You join during your first Fall semester at Saint Martin’s University and,

2. You expect to graduate in no less than 3 years and no more than 4 years upon admission to the University.


We believe that when students invest in career planning (see below for required career planning activities) they successfully obtain employment or graduate school after graduating within four years.

Research supports that early engagement with career planning activities support positive outcomes for students as well as increase their career readiness. The National Association of Colleges and Employers have identified 8 competencies directly liked to career readiness. They are:

  • Professionalism
  • Teamwork
  • Technology

Career planning activities required of Saints Promise students to be completed in the year listed:

  • Review and Sign contract 
  • Activate Handshake profile and do initial job search activity 
  • Complete personality and career interest assessment (TypeFocus) 
  • Rate your LinkedIn profile (Vocational activity) 
  • Meet with Academic Advisor twice 
  • Attend a Vocational workshop

  • Submit initial resume after it’s reviewed with an Internship Navigator 
  • Complete an Information Interview or Job Shadow with Alumni 
  • Attend a Career Fair 
  • Declare Major 
  • Complete a Career Trek 
  • Meet with Academic Advisor twice 

  • Attend Etiquette, Professionalism, & Networking workshop 
  • Complete MoneyEDU (financial literacy workshop) 
  • Do an Experiential Learning/Internship (non- or for-credit) 
  • Attend a Career Fair 
  • Connect with a Mentor (can be faculty, alumni, family friend, boss, etc.) 
  • Meet with Academic Advisor twice 

  • Complete Career Readiness Reflection Paper 
  • Complete Mock Interview with an Internship Navigator 
  • Attend Career Fair OR other networking event 
  • Submit final resume after it’s reviewed with an Internship Navigator 
  • Meet with Academic Advisor twice 

  • Enroll/Attend the Benedictine Leadership Class or Leadership Summit 
  • Attend a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice event 
  • Attend an faculty sponsored Academic event 
  • Have a 3.0 gpa at graduation 
  • Completed 8 semesters at St. Martin’s University (unless eligible transfer student) 
  • Have no conduct issues 
  • Have good financial standing with St. Martin’s University at graduation
